The university chose to honor the students' wishes that these displays be part of the event, even though there were other members of our community who were deeply offended. Given the reaction to those cartoons around the world, it was clear that that required a different approach to the logistics.

NYU was perfectly happy to have them sit there ... NYU had bottled water and granola bars out there for the protestors so they could be safe and comfortable... The arrests were carefully stage-managed with the union and the police department.
