Your actions shouldn't change an animal's behavior. The true test is whether you affect the animals. For instance, if your presence causes a bird to fly away, it may force the bird to abandon their young or steer clear of the area all together.

It's also a bad idea to walk on snowmelt where there is still two or three inches of snow because there's fragile vegetation under the snow that you don't even know is trying to grow there... This is true especially in higher elevations.
